Cristina del Campo (Spain, 1981) lives and works in Basel, Switzerland. Her research is focused in both concepts fragment and recontextualisation, playing with the boundaries between abstraction and figuration.
Making use of collage techniques as a predominant issue, del Campo combines it with drawing and painting in several bidimensional mediums, as well as scultpure and expanded painting using the wall of the exhibition space. Working equaly with regular and irregular formats as a way to explore balance and perception of movement, she achieves an image specific and direct.
In the process of work, the fragment is putting out of context due to be selected from a Extreme Close-Up view. Insolated therefore from its environment, is understood now as a new independent element, an anonymous image more close to the abstraction. The subsequent stage of construction of a new fictitious reality created with several fragments contextualized the fragment again, in a new way.
Del Campo is Graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Salamanca and Postgraduated in Paint at Complutense University of Madrid.
She had exhibitions at art spaces and galleries as Juan Silió Gallery, Santander; Black & White Gallery, Arthub and Mulherin+Pollard Gallery, New York; Galeria 3+1 Arte Contemporânea, Lisbon; Colegio de España, Paris; Institutos Cervantes of New York, Brussels and Warsaw; or Spanish Embassy, Washington, among others. She has also works in art fairs such as PULSE NY, ART SOUTHAMPTON and AFFORDABLE ART FAIR, in New York; ARCO, JUSTMAD, ESTAMPA and SUMMA, in Madrid; EST ART FAIR, Estoril; and ARTESANTANDER in Santander.
She has received awards as Summer Calling’13, Art<30, Visual Arts Government of Cantabria Award (twice), Gaceta Foundation Award, Ibercaja Award, Pancho Cossío Award or Government of Cantabria Visual Arts Grant.
